Facebook unveiled the new official live video streaming channel, Facebook Live on August 13, 2010 at its Palo Alto, California headquarters. This live video app provides the extra facelift to its 500 million users who can take part in its day-to-day happenings.Livestream has been chosen as the official live video partner for the app.Facebook is already dedicated as a social networking platform for distributing live video of its own events. This app will feature special celebrity guests who visit the Facebook offices, and this app will also be used for live video Facebook announcements, employee interactions and live streaming of its special events like f8 developer conference. This Live channel will allow users to ask questions, update their status in accordance with the particular livestream, add the app as a tab on any page, and archive videos to suit their preferences. However, this app is not intended as a platform for Facebook users to showcase their own videos.
The new Facebook Live channel will incorporate Facebook's real-time Live Feed technology to facilitate interactions between the viewing audience and the speaker.
Facebook Live can be added to any Facebook Page, where it can stream live on multiple Pages simultaneously. This feature allows users to take advantage of the new channel to increase their fan following.
Facebook will enable users to share videos on Twitter, Google Buzz, MySpace, Delicious, Digg and via email with special sharing buttons. A shortened URL (http://livestre.am/xyz) will also be provided for this live video channel.
